Mission, Ministry & Friendship in Cuba Highland Presbyterians have joined in ministry with the Presbyterian-Reformed congregation in Taguasco every year since the partnership began in 2009. The next trip to Cuba will be determined following the Covid-19 Pandemic. A group from Highland will join with the Taguasco congregation for church and community activities, education, home visits, outreach, and fellowship. The purpose of the trip is to be the body of Christ together. |
HISTORY OF OUR CUBA CONNECTION AND MINISTRY
Since 2008, our Highland-Taguasco peacemaking partnership has grown as a relational ministry of sharing how God is present in the lives of our two congregations. Twenty-three members of Highland --- adults, college students and children--- have visited the Taguasco church in Cuba, at least two members visiting each year for seven years. Leaders from the Presbyterian Church in Cuba have also come to visit Highland.
During each visit, we share in worship, Bible study, community fellowship and local ministries. We both have a ministry of meals on wheels. Highland's meals are delivered in Blount County by car, and Taguasco's meals are delivered in their community by horse and wagon.
The two congregations continually support each other in prayer, sharing of joys and concerns, and working toward cooperative ministries.
Many of us remember growing up being taught that Cubans were our enemies, and now we discover that we are called to be one family of faith, united in Christ.
