Every spring and fall, Highland hosts a community compost sale for the gardeners in our area. We sell a rich mushroom compost (cow manure) that comes from a local mushroom farm. It's a wonderful source of organic nitrogen fertilizer to help the community grow food and flowers, which contributes to creating healthy food systems and supporting important pollinators that gardens need to thrive. This compost is more sustainable than fossil fuel-based fertilizers and helps you create healthy topsoil so you can have an abundant garden year after year.
Why are you raising funds?
This fundraiser provides seed money for our big vision of decarbonizing our buildings. As Christians, we believe that we are called to act as responsible stewards of the environment, and that means acting to do our part when it comes to climate change. Transitioning to renewable energy would have a high impact by reducing our energy bills, which would allow us to serve the community more. We know it's not an easy undertaking, so we would also be able to share the process with other congregations and individuals who are seeking to transition to renewables. We believe that through God, all things are possible, and that's why we are eager and happy to take on such a big challenge.
Why should I contribute?
We invite the broader community, regardless of faith or religious affiliation, to contribute toward our vision of transitioning to renewable energy for several reasons. First and foremost, climate change affects all of us, so if we can decarbonize our church, that helps our entire community. We also see it as an opportunity for education. If we can become a model for other churches and organizations, then our efforts will have a compounding effect in our area. Regardless of whether you are a member of Highland, we invite you to contribute to share in our bold vision of creation care.
I'm not a gardener but I'd like to help.
